BALDASSARRE CASTIGLIONE

It is the room that, of all of them, gave us the most surprises. In fact, demolition of the false ceiling revealed the original wooden ceiling, which, when restored, gave the suite its shabby chic character. Thus the reopening of the three windows (one of which was half-closed, gave an unexpected light to the bedroom). An old Frau armchair from 1905 and a portrait of the famous humanist completed the suite in shades of taupe, mud beige, making it the softest, of Raphael’s suites. Like all suites, Castiglione has a safe, chromotherapy light in the shower, air conditioning, and fireplace-TV, this time not as a frame but as a white vertical volume on which hangs the portrait that gives the room its name. The small kitchen compartment, also buffet style at the entrance, contains sink, refrigerator, hotplates, and a compartment for cooking equipment. A stand-alone cabinet contains the NESPRESSO machine and breakfast necessities.

Area:

Via del Banco di S. Spirito 21 Roma

Difficult to stay in an area richer in monuments and sites: in front of Castel S.Angelo, leaving the residence (3′). The imposing “Palazzaccio,” now the Court of Cassation (5′), St. Peter’s (10′), Piazza Navona (5′) and Campo dei Fiori (7′) are really just a stone’s throw away. The Trevi Fountain (20′), Spanish Steps (25′) or Trastevere (30′) are not far away.
